Coughton Court

A lady in a pink 17th century dress has been seen pacing the Tapestry Room or descending the stairs towards the south wing. She is Mrs Catesby, the wife of Robert who hatched the failed Gunpowder Plot. Mrs Catesby had not told her father of the plan and she took to pacing nervously until her father, Sir Thomas Throckmorton demanded to know what was amiss. Soon after, the king's forces arrived and arrested the whole household, suspecting complicity but were released when they convinced the authorities that they knew nothing. Footsteps have also been attributed to the Plot too.

Update 9/3/22: Abi, a National Trust worker, replied to my Facebook query about any recent ghostly happenings: "I'm afraid we're not aware of anyone having reported anything recently, definitely not from staff or volunteers."
