Thomas Oken Tearooms

It is not clear if the spectre has persisted, but in the past the old owner of the house, Thomas Oken, has been seen in the area of the stairs, and footsteps heard descending have been attributed to him.

Update 12/1/20: Replying to an email from myself, Jo, a staff member informed me that "Apparently we do have a few ghosts, according to customers who can feel that sort of thing. One is the ghost of Thomas Oken himself who wanders around upstairs. One is the ghost of a female servant. And the third is a child (a girl) who hangs around at the bottom of the stairs. Some young women have felt a tug at their clothes as they go down the stairs - they feel that the little girl is holding something (jacks?) and wants to play."
A follow-up email on 14/3/2025 was answered by Hannah; "We haven't got big stories, but certainly the staff have tails [tales] of footsteps on the stairs when they are along [alone] in the building, a child's laughter and someone pulling at their shirt that they can't explain ... these are all quite recent sightings and hearings."
