Ludlow Castle

Castle Square, Ludlow, Shropshire SY8 1AY
01584 874465

The ghost is said to be Marion de la Bruyere (or de Bruer), a lady who lived in the castle and was enamoured with a Welsh knight; however, political situations determined that the Welsh were not to enter the town and Marion allowed the knight to visit her using a rope ladder. All went well until he turned up with a crowd of armed men, determined to seize the castle. Marion stabbed her lover through the chest, before raising the alarm and then throwing herself from the battlements. Her ghost is seldom seen (at the Hanging Tower where she plummetted to her doom), but her gasps for breath, as in a fight, can be heard and people report the sensation of someone rushing past them.

Update: 29/7/20 Sonja Belchere, the custodian, informs me that, "[There has been] no activity that we are aware of"
