St Mary's GuildhallBayley Lane, Coventry, West Midlands CV1 5RN 02477 1036 95 A "Grey Lady" has been seen walking down the staircase into the kitchen, where a "Black Lady" has been observed washing dishes (she has also been seen at the foot of the stairs leading to the Great Hall; the stairs have also been the location of running footsteps). A man was once seen in the undercroft before vanishing. In the Old Council Chamber, a man in red robes is sometimes seen, and a long robed figure reported in The Minstrel's Gallery, where footsteps have also been noted. The Old Mayoress's Parlour is also subject to great noise, as if furniture is being thrown about. There are many other stories attached to this supernaturally active location! Update 13/8/20: Marcus Lynch, the General Manager informs me, "As you note, the published accounts of paranormal activity at St Mary’s Guildhall are getting on a bit now. The most regularly featured account is that of a ‘monk’ spotted on a photograph taken at a banquet in the 1980s ... Staff will occasionally report catching a shadow in the corner of their eye, or a reflection of a figure near entranceways with no-one visibly entering or leaving. More enthusiastic staff members have even left voice recorders running overnight, capturing all manner of strange noises. Beyond this, we have had no consistently reported phenomena of more recent date." Link: Coventry Live |
