The George

Once known as "The Ale House Kitchen", it is now known as "The George," its original name from many years ago. It was while it was known by that old name that a ghost was reported, believed to be a former landlady, named Mary; she is said to have perished from smoke during a fire in the building. The phantom is said to blow out candles and steal their lighters, and be responsible for poltergeist-like behaviour. Perhaps coincidentally, in 2009, a fire broke out in "The Haunted Room" (also known as "Mary's Room" which was an empty storage room). The fire did not spread but was confined to that one area. Whether the ghost still persists is unknown.
