Ye Olde Leathern Bottel

While in the cellar, the landlord heard the sound of someone upstairs in the pub - but there was no-one there. The ghost of a Grey Lady haunts the pub, as is a lady in high heels (who has been heard behind the bar), and the smell of toast permeates the building in the morning. An old man in grey, said to have been killed in a 1917 Zeppelin raid, haunts the snug where a blocked off staircase was once located. Ladies have felt cold spots here and some animals will not enter the snug. In an interview with the press in September 2023 the landlord said that he’d heard things especially in the cellar including ticking noises, some of which came from barrels. He also noted the smell of toast (detected anytime during the day) but there is also the odour of paint, smelt in the morning. A workman also saw a chair move by itself.
