Oxburgh HallIt it said that an Italian countess jumped out the north bedroom windown and drowned in the moat after she was jilted. She apparently haunts the north bedroom and north staircase. A woman in Tudor clothing has been seen in the grounds, accompanied by a drop in temperature. Update 19/8/21: Lynsey Coombs, the property curator informs me, "I’m afraid there is very little to back up the claims about the jilted countess. The story is associated with a particular portrait in the collection which is of an unknown lady who is thought to be an Italian countess, but there is no evidence that she ever came to Oxburgh so I think it will be another story with origins in pure rumour ... I have been in post since 2017 and there haven’t been any verified sightings during that time." Link: Eastern Daily Press |
