A previous landlord, perhaps named John is said to haunt this establishment - and another phantom is Anne Horton, a lady of ill repute who is said to follow young men home! She is reputed to have hanged herself (some versions say that she slit her wrists). Another phantom is a young girl of approximately 11 years of age who is seen playing in the main bar by the back window, and also in the kitchen doorway of the flat upstairs. In addition, there are stories that people have experienced the sensation of being walked past by someone invisible, glasses have moved by themselves or exploded, cold spots detected, strange noise and smells experienced and door closing without assistance.

Update 13/12/21: When asked via Facebook if anything had been experienced recently, the pub replied, "Yes we are still haunted!". In late Octiber 2022, a newspaper article claimed that a William Giffard murdered his lover Anne Horton, and that she, together with her children, haunted the pub. Wendy Shown, who has owned the pub for almost 20 years says that, "The pub has a haunted history. We have two or three ghosts here with many sightings and a few others that I haven't seen ... There's supposed to be a little dog here and a landlord going through walls - customers have seen them and told us. Some people have even asked why we have a little child here at night which we don't but people have seen her. Staff have seen things and then come back looking white as sheets ..."
