The Cowshed

When this was "The Horns of Boningale," a short lady was seen at one of the tables in the dining room and man dressed in a smock was observed leaning against the mantelpiece in that room, but his face was unclear; in later years, he also started to appear in the cellar. Poltergeist-like activity, especially in the kitchen, has been attributed to "Henry" who hides things and heralds his presence with an icy chill; he also liked to turn taps on in the night in other areas. A variety of strange smells had been detected in the cellar too; sweat, tobacco and perfume. Another phantom was a man in a tweed jacket, who was seen at the bar.
Recent claims add a few more details to the spectres here, some of which contradict the above information: "One of the ghosts here is said to be a drover who was murdered by a fellow after a fight in their old dormitory. Another ghost is an old maid, who wipes down the tables, and a man wearing tweed who leans against the bar. A worker who went into the cellar to replenish an ice bucket heard a cough behind her and she turned to look. She saw a bottle in a crate that was upended, turn until it was the right way up. The employee back off and then fled the scene! She later returned to the pub after it was renovated, and said that the atmosphere was much lighter, as if the presence had gone."
