Banging sounds and aircraft engines coming from the base’s old technical site have been heard after dark, and many times people working in the old hangars have reported the sounds of footsteps and voices, and music and laughter heard coming from the old mess. A pair who went fishing on site after dark were alarmed when their tent was illuminated by a spotlight coming from an adjacent field. However, there was nothing there to cause such radiance. At 5.30 a.m. the next morning they were both awakened by the sound of heavy aircraft engines. The source of this anecdote admitted that he never went there again after dark. The site is now an industrial estate.
