The Maid's Head

Coinciding mainly with refurbishment work, the ghost of an elderly grey lady, thought to be an ex-chambermaid, has been seen wandering around the hotel, starting in the downstairs bar and looking round before disappearing back into the cellar; it is even claimed that, "She’s often spotted cleaning and helping with the dishes behind the bar". She is accompanied by a smell of lavender. There is reputedly a second phantom, that of "a former city mayor who has been sighted in the courtyard violently shaking his head."
