The Heron

The sound of something breaking heralded the start of phenomena on the very first day of opening, and was later traced to a shattered sherry glass on the floor in the bar area. This would occur very regularly, usually on a sunday morning and focussed on gin and ale glasses which are placed well away from the edge of the shelf. Other reported phenomena include staff hearing a man's voice saying a single word, different each time; doors flinging open; strange smells in the restaurant, which sometimes goes completely cold for no reason; and the sound of children's footsteps running down the top corridor. The only visible apparition was by a pot washer who talked of seeing a short man named "Albert" at the corner of the washer; this is believed to be Albert Gyp, the very first landlord of the pub, dating to the 1950s, and who was indeed of short stature. Whenever things occur, "Albert" is blamed and a rebuke issued by staff. One of the guest rooms has had strange phenomena including the door handle being tried when there was no one else in the building; someone banging on the door (again the occupant, the manageress, was the only one in the building); the sound of breathing coming into the room and then proceeding next to the occupant's bed; and problems with the water supply.
