Management and staff have reported phenomena in the oldest part of the building (the central area). These events include a chill felt in the roof space during electrical work, unexplained shadows in the public area and items being moved in the cellar - it is also in this area that beer taps have been turned off and a member of staff felt a tap on the shoulder. In one alarming incident, the manager heard bumps and banging noises coming from downstairs in the early hours of the morning and fearing an intruder, ventured into the bar area. He found nothing but his dog cowered in the centre of the room, growling at something invisible. A historical report from the 1960s and 70s said that footsteps, jazz music and chairs being dragged along the floor could be heard coming from a disused function room in the early hours of the morning; electrical equipment was described as "unreliable", too.
