Although never seen or heard, "Five to Four Fred" (his name hints at the time he is active) has a reputation for trying to smother men, or, for ladies, stroking their faces or having their backsides patted.

The landlords, David and Andy Haslett were interviewed for the local press in February 2023; they took over the pub in July 2022 and in that period had experienced nothing. It appears that "Fred" seems to make himself known in a booth in the pub (which would make his attempts to smother men somewhat conspicuous if it were to happen in the afternoon as the article indicates!). David Haslett had heard the "Fred" was supposed to be one of the workers who used to stand at the end of the bar - but he'd been told tales that the ghost was none other than Dick Turpin.
