When this building was the Royal Shrewsbury Infirmary, the ghost of a man nicknamed "Fred" was seen in the basement, waiting to be handed food from the soup kitchen. It is not known if he still appears. Also, during its time as a hospital, there were unexplained cold spots and banging noises, and a Victorian lady was seen in the kitchen while a grey lady walked through the wards, though she was only seen from the knees upwards. The Victorian lady is known as "The Matron" and is still seen, according to some reports. The residents of the upper-storey flats report screams, moans and groans and next door is the old nursing home (now flats) where a man carrying a clipboard has been seen. A nurse is said to be seen inspecting invisible oxygen bottles in the apartments, and another apparition (dating from the World War 1 era) is said to look up the stairs and smile, before vanishing. Shopkeepers would open in the morning to find stock lined up on the floor. In the lowest level building next to the cafe, there have been sightings of a woman wearing white and a stern looking lady who disappeared when she realised that she had been spotted (though these could be "The Matron" and/or "The Grey Lady?"). Elsewhere, a lady was using a toilet when the cubicle door flew open, accompanied by a giggle but there was no one there to remonstrate with.
