In the late 1970s, there was an outbreak of poltergeist activity here, usually at night. Nicknamed "Fred", the phantom had taken to opening heavy doors and leaving laughter on the answering machine, and on a Saturday afternoon it interrupted a tea break with footsteps (the only time the ghost was active during the daytime). One of the vets was looking under the bonnet of his car one evening when a voice asked if he could "be of any help" - naturally, there was no-one there, and afterwards the vet was reported to leave his headlights on and the car engine running when he visited the premises after dark!
In 2020, I found out that the ghost was no longer active but the building was described as old and did have a tendency to make odd noises, and the draught in the corridor could make doors slam. In a nod to past events, the "odd noises" were referred to as "Fred"!
