A number of tales have emerged from this location when it was known as The Tudor Rose restaurant and hotel. There is an unproven story that a gypsy wedding was once held here and a quarrel ensued in which the bridegroom stabbed his new wife to death. A different version says that it was instead a jilted lover who murdered the lady. She was said to return to the premises as a ghost in her wedding dress, leaving cold spots in her wake, and footsteps. She had been noted mostly in the old room 7, the stairs, restaurant and back stairs. There had also been incidents of glasses being moved and flying off hooks, trays levitating, fruit machines playing by themselves, the sound of furniture being moved, toilet rolls unravelling, lights being found turned on, and unexplained music. In addition to the gypsy lady, an old woman has been seen rocking in a chair, a man seen shovelling snow in the yard (the snow was later found untouched), a doppelganger of the night porter, an old man sat at a table, a ghostly nun and a man in a long coat and hat. There are many other stories attached to this building but whether anything is still happening is not as yet known.

Update 3/9/26: co-owner Paul Vater tells me, "We have not experienced or had any reports of anything unusual during our time here."
