Gresley Old Hall

A phantom maid named Margery is said to "terrorise" those who lived at the hall and ventured upstairs and it is said that when her story is told she moves things or switch lights off to frighten them; a legend said that in the Victorian era the 65 year old maid fell asleep beside the fire and her charges, three children, died in the ensuing blaze. The second floor room where this occurred is reputed to have been boarded up and never used again. Other stories attached to the place include children who were abused and abandoned, and a man who was stabbed to death on the first floor landing, his bloodstains still being seen to this day despite efforts to remove them.
