Former RAF West Raynham
West Raynham, Norfolk NR21 7PL
As with many old RAF bases, there is at least one report of phantom aircraft, in this case a large plane flying at a very low altitude. The plane passed in front of a witness's car, and she said it flew noiselessly and had no lights on. The phantom stories are of a Polish pilot, usually in room 7 of the officers mess and who walks through walls and even a witness; a "shadowy figure" in the social club area; an "angry and nasty ... black shadow" in the chapel; a man who has been seen to walk through a wall where a door used to be, and then traverse a corridor; and a lady in a grey trench coat, seen in the vicinity of the old morgue. Poltergeist activity is rife, including screams and sobbing in the old hospital, bedclothes being ripped off someone in the sick bay and noises heard from a locked area. In this latter instance, the room was found inaccessible because the contents of the room were pushed up against the door from the inside. Additionally, dogs do not like the stairs to the control tower, reacting to so mething invisible.
