Sandringham House

A ghost seen here has been identified, thanks to a portrait, as Dorothy Walpole, who also haunts Raynham Hall. A small boy has also been seen, blowing out non-existent candles in a corridor; another ghost is a former steward. The room where George VI lived before his death is so haunted that staff didn't want to work in it and a service was held in 2000; it is not known if this was successful. The library has a clock whose hands move by themselves (presumably not in the normal way!) and books have flown from the shelves. The ghost of the Queen's favourite servant, Tony Jarred, has been reported in the cellar, too. Around Christmastime, paranormal activity reaches a crescendo with objects moved, heavy breathing heard and bedclothes yanked off the beds.
