Tutbury Castle

A brown-garbed monk in the Vine Croft, a "White Lady" in the watchtower (who, according to one legend, went there to meet her lover only to find him butchered by one of her husband's men whereupon she jumped to her death), a "Grey Lady" in a room used by King Charles II, a little girl named "Lizzie" who "peeks from behind curtains" and plays pranks (she is sometimes called "Ellie" and is placed in the King's Bedroom in some versions of her story), and a knight (known as "The Keeper") in Norman armour who bellows at people (saying "Get thee hence!") to leave the area of John of Gaunt's Gateway are some of the manifestations reported here. A famous phantom is of a drummer boy; he was killed when an arrow pierced his skull after warning the castle of an impending attack. However, his drumming is now said to be a good omen rather than a portent of doom. Additionally, Mary, Queen of Scots is also said to have been sighted in the castle!
