A man in dark cloak was seen from time to time in the pub car park in the 1970s and 80s. There were also stories of lights flickering inside the premises.

Update 20/2/23: The pub responded to my email query confirming what the Greene King website had said; the licensee moved in in 2001 and they had never experienced anything paranormal in that time. The pub provided a scan of pages from an unknown book by Rosemary Robb describing some of the incidents at the pub, which obviously occurred prior to 2001. Landlady Shirley White (then known as Shirley Fuller) woke to strange noises in the night, such as disembodied voices, stairs creaking, and whispered conversations that ended abruptly as soon the empty landing was investigated. Initially attributing the sound to imagination, staff also began hearing them too. Other phenomena include a Scalectrix set activating even though the power was off; their Alsatian dogs refusing to go into the cellar and standing at the top trembling, refusing to move; and in the cellar itself, the closed doors to the wine cupboard would be found open the next morning. Events culminated when the shadowy form of a monk with no face materialised in the lounge fireplace. It floated across the room and then disappeared. The building was exorcised by a priest and all has been quiet ever since.
