Colwick Hall Hotel

In 1831, the Hall was assailed during the riots caused by the Reform Bill, which the owner, Sir John Musters, opposed. The mob ransacked the house, severely damaging it, and Mrs Ann Musters hid in a nearby shrubbery. The attack on her home is believed to have a severe effect on her health and she died only four months later. Her ghost is still seen, hiding as she did during that riot. She has also been seen indoors, especially the east wing. The sad ghost of Mary Ann Chaworth, whose dalliance with Lord Byron was spurned by her family and then married into the Musters family has also been seen in the corridors. There are sounds of footsteps heard in the building, often coming from the servants’ quarters, and there is also the regular sound of children’s laughter. The attic is also said to be haunted too but details are scant.
