Old Hall Hotel

High Street, Sandbach, Cheshire, CW11 1AL

Cold spots, radios being switched on and off, lights hovering by the fireplace, footsteps and phantom children giggling in the dining hall, a member of staff feeling a hand on her shoulder, kitchen utensils and cutlery being moved and a shadowy figure that went through the closed door into the ladies toilet have all been experienced here. Sir John Ratcliffe, who built the manor in the 17th century, has also been seen on occasion. Other apparitions include an old lady seen in a chair by the bed in room 11 (where guests wake up thinking that their bed is on fire, perhaps dating to the time when there was a conflagration at the house) and in the same room, two girls aged about 12 and said to be prostitutes; and a "Grey Lady" who walks the corridors; it is claimed that her wraith became active when workmen were moving panelling from Haslington Hall to the Old Hall, and the skeleton of a baby was discovered. There is also said to be a suitably attired beekeeper, sometimes identified as female. Also seen from time to time is a phantom dog in room 1 and a spectral cat.
