Bridge of Sighs

91 Northgate Street, Chester, Cheshire CH1 4EE

The sighs of condemned prisoners who were led from their cell at the Northgate Prison to a chapel and thence onto the scaffold have been heard here. In the vicinity of Northgate are said to be cries issuing from the site of the prison and thumps thought to be bodies banging against the old gibbet that once stood here.
