The Rutland Hotelaka "The Rutland" and "The Rutland Arms" 23 Stephenson Place, Chesterfield, Derbyshire S40 1XL 01256 931870 Workers found their tools disappearing renovation work, only to find them in different areas. One of the ghosts is a man in a dark cloak and is nicknamed "Fred"; the other is a young woman in white who walks down the stairs and past the bar. Glasses have been seen to move in the bar and fall to the ground without breaking, gas taps turn off and the water to the ice maker is turned off. CAMRA gives us more information; "The most compelling story is the tale of Hannah Owens, who was a servant girl at the hotel in 1875. After a night out drinking with a friend, and clearly in an emotional state, she hung herself in the water closet. Her ghost has appeared many times, most commonly as the White Lady who glides down the stairs and across to the bar." Link: CAMRA |
