Things started to go awry when the landlord suffered a bleed on the brain after an iron bar on a hook over a doorway smashed into his head when he was in the beer cellar. Other phenomena mentioned talk of a stool that he was standing on collapsed underneath him, a TV remote control that went flying across the bar, chairs moving by themselves, "shh shh" noises when they go through doors and glasses swaying without human cause. A possible culprit for the ghostly activity was provided when the landlord found out that an 8 year old girl named Maria Rathbone died nearby in December 1821 when she sent to the shop and got lost. She was found dead 400 yards from the pub with bacon under her arm. A gentleman found her and had this dream that a girl was found under a holly bush. They found her, they had the inquest and wake for her in this pub.
