Liverpool Playhouse TheatreWilliamson Square, Liverpool, Merseyside L1 1EL 0151 708 3700 Poltergeist-like behaviour of slamming doors and taps that turned on and off have been reported here, as has as "dark presence" and a female phantom named Elizabeth, supposedly a cleaning lady who was killed (or murdered?) in 1897 when an iron fire curtain broke her neck as she mopped the stage, her body falling into the orchestra pit. Apparently, although the water-powered fire iron needed someone to operate it, her death was recorded as accidental. Her "preferred location" is the gallery, especially seat A5 which is said to have a coldness to it. She was apparently last seen by actress Pauline Daniels in 1996. Other claimed phantoms include two grey ladies, one seen in the coffee bar and the other in the rehearsal room (one of them may be a spectral wardrobe mistress who has been seen) and a man in a cape and top hat who sits in one of the boxes.
