Wentworth Woodhouse

The ghost of Thomas Wentworth, who was executed in 1641 for "political treachery" is said to appear at 11pm, walking down the stairs in the old portion of the house and then to his rooms; he is also said to walk down Haigh Lane with his head under his arm. A cold breeze is said to accompany his visitation. A phantom lady has also been reported; she is said by some to be responsible for people being prevented from ascending the stairs by an invisible force. There is also a spectral monk and also stories of "footsteps, voices and children laughing [which] are often heard in the servant's quarters, George IV quarters, the library and the stables...[as well as] the ghost of a man who stands still."
