The Church Inn

When this was known as "The Bull's Head", two men had a row with members of the family, pouring scorn on the claims that the pub was haunted. They were challenged to spend a night in the cellar but after a few hours they had to be "rescued". Orange lights had been seen by the doorway and then beer barrels started moving and collided with each other. The two men were caught up in the maelstrom and one of them later needed stitches for an injury to the head caused by a barrel; it was also in the cellar that a previous landlord's dogs refused to venture into this area. In the same year (1985), an employee working downstairs on the accounts heard a scraping noise which she traced to a pub chair being dragged across the floor. Another time, the employee's children saw a man wearing a blue jumper in the bar who disappeared. In the ladies toilets, all the cubicle doors slammed shut sequentially. More recently, in 2023, the owners had retired for the night when they heard laughter and a sound like someone "banging around" in the bar. CCTV showed nothing that the area was empty though there was a suggestion that "an entity" was seen walking around the tables and there was an unexplained, muffled sound. The owners also noted that glasses often smashed and people heard their name called. In the living area, their two year old son used to try and sleep on the landing as he said that "she" wanted to play and was keeping him awake. There had also been the sound of a baby crying heard coming from the function room. It was also in the accommodation that someone banged on the landlord's bedroom door but there was no-one there at the time.
