Bury Bolton Street Station

A ghostly form, nicknamed "Billy The Guard" has been seen over the years, sat snoozing in his overalls in the waiting room near platforms 3 and 4.

Update 28/5/5: Greg Hardman informed me of his own research here: "[I] spoke to several of the station staff. One in particular, Maggie, told me she knew the story about the man who has been seen sleeping on the bench on platform 4 next to the Waiting Room but hasn't seen him herself but has been told by a couple of the older members of staff that they had seen him at some point in the past, nothing recently though in the last 6 months at least. She told me a man has also been witnessed wandering around the station. Could it be the same man as the line on the bench ?? Another [story] that she relayed to me is one that she has actually witnessed herself...a whistling engineer. An engineer by the name of Frosty was working down at the engine sheds one evening finishing off a job. His workmate told him that he was heading home and Frosty said "Okay, I will see you tomorrow"...when he didn't show the next day the alarm was raised and a search was carried out to look for him. Unfortunately they found him lying on the tracks between two engines dead. Evidently he'd had a heart-attack and died where he fell...now Frosty was known for being a bit of a whistler, and to this day he has been heard whistling on the tracks between Platform 3 & 4 and the Engine Sheds...this has been witnessed by a few of the staff including Maggie...both in the morning on opening and the evening after closing."
