Hodroyd Hall

A "ghoulish" nun, monk and a spectre known as Dr Bell are said to be encountered here. It is said that a kitchen maid was murdered here and her body disposed in the fireplace. It is not known if she is one of the ghosts here.

Update 27/7/22: Staff member Stephen Aviss replied to my Facebook query for any recent phenomena: "I have had numerous stories related to me over the years but as yet I haven’t personally experienced anything I would consider noteworthy to report." When I asked whether he had heard any stories from staff or visitors, he told me, "I’ve heard stories of children singing in the attic, a grey lady walking in the Gargrave Room (our dining room), Fred and Ethel - servants who like to hide things and cause mischief, a white horse being seen galloping in Felkirk and coming into the courtyard which is now the Orangery (people sometimes here trotting hooves), Napoleonic eta soldiers performing drill outside, and injured WWI soldiers in the library and nuns walking in the hallway. I think there is probably more if I think further!" As to whether these were recent, I was informed, "The horse is apparently quite an old story 50 years plus - it is assumed to be something to do with John Nevison who was a highwayman in the 1680s who frequented Felkirk. All the others are in the last five years, the nun and WWI soldier were in June!" However, a final query as to whether these recent reports were by people going about their normal business, or by ghost hunters went unanswered.
