The ghost reports here supposedly dates from the time that the building was a cinema and the phantom is described as having "tousled hair and dressed in black trousers and a crumpled white shirt." He has been tentatively identified as 25 year old projectionist Raymond Farrar who died in a fire here on April 9 1948. The press reports that there have been loud banging sounds, hand driers turning on and off and the feeling of a presence in the building, and that the ghost would sit and watch players when the premises housed a bingo hall. A ghost hunt was organised in the mid 1960s but was curtailed after people fled when a large bang was heard. One of those involved said, "It was well known among staff that there was a ghost there but you didn’t say anything except to each other. You didn’t want to be ridiculed." Whether ghost stories persist in the new venue is open to question.
