Small balls of light rolling along the floor, a mead making monk in the former scullery, a former owner who sits on a creaky fireside chair, a "wraith-like servant girl" and a spectre who moves firelighter around have been reported here.
A newspaper interview in October 2024 with former owner Mark Thompson, who was the proprietor from 2001-23, revealed more details during his time. He said that he and his partner were taking all the existing 70s paraphernalia out, polishing everything when the spirits started to appear. He said, "“They come at different times, if you believe in these things they come at a time when they feel comfortable. We had one behind the bar, who was a boy, we had one in the graveyard. The boy was there for many many years. There used to be a little marble or glass ball, we were sitting [at the bar] at night before we went to bed at one or two in the morning after everybody had gone. The ball would regularly come down and it would turn right on its own and disappear. We loved all of that. We talked to them." Mr Thompson also talked of the time when he would put the music up loud at about 2am, relaxing with a couple of pints of beer when CDs would start to fly a little bit. Talking of the flying discs, he said, "as we walked in there was a pile of CDs on the counter and they went up in the air, left and right, and at the same time down, it was like a six handed poltergeist, a massive force." The 'boy ghost' would also like to turn the volume of music up and down; Thompson gave a mild rebuke to the ghost when the sound was reduced and the volume turned up a bit and eventually a compromise on a mutually acceptable sound level was reached. There was another time that he found himself unable to open a door until his partner opened it for him. A customer who talked about his disbelief in ghosts had his pint of Guinness taken from his hand, and it hovered in mid air for three seconds and then smashed on the floor. The current owner of the inn, Andrew Hields, also told the press that while he hadn't experienced anything himself, some of his staff have heard their names called out when they were in a room by themselves. They'd also seen an individual "at an unsociable" hour and had followed them into the next room but they were no longer there. The current proprietor also said there were about 5 ghosts, two children and three adults. Intriguingly, he said they had CCTV things of certain "unexplainable" things.
Update 17/9/20: Aislinn, a worker at the hotel tells me, "We are a very old building and there are a lot of stories associated with us and we have had several guests inform us of some experiences they felt they had. Unfortunately, however I could not confirm any stories personally." However, on 5/1/24, another worker named Mark told me that there had been recent occurrences at the hotel.
