Mains Castle

The ghost here is said to be a woman (sometimes said to be the sister of William the Lyon, the 12th century King of Scots) who had an affair with another man. Her husband discovered their dalliance but her lover managed to lower himself out of a window on knotted sheets, leaving her to her to be strangled by her spouse. She, and the knotted sheet, have been seen as spectral remnants. Cold sensations, voices, the sound of footsteps and furniture being dragged on bare boards in an upper room (the room was carpetted) are also experienced here.

Update 12/1/22 When asked via Facebook if anything had been reported recently, staff at the castle simply replied with a thumbs-up emoji!
