Barcaldine Castle

A previous occupant, Harriet Campbell died in the castle and she, in the guise of "A Blue Lady" has been seen in her room; the piano has also been heard to play by itself on some windy nights; Harriet was a lover of music. There may be another phantom here too. A newspaper claims that, "The 16th century castle was built by Sir Duncan Campbell, and is said to be haunted by his brother Donald - after he give his killer, Stewart of Appin, free board and food. Initially it's said he appeared to warn his brother about the visitor, but then hung around to scare hotel guests and staff." Another newspaper in September 2024 says that, "Today, guests at Barcaldine Castle have reported experiencing flashing lights and a strange pressure on their legs, which is thought to be the spirit of Duncan. Photographs taken in the property are also said to ‘sometimes display unexplained blueish outlines." There is obviously some confusion here as to whether it is Donald Campbell or his brother Sir Duncan who is the ghost (my book says that it is Donald, who was killed by Stewart Appin in the Massacre of Glencoe."
