Carbisdale Castle

A "White Lady" has been seen in the castle. She has been identified as Duchess Mary Caroline Blair, the 2nd wife of the 3rd Duke of Sutherland. The Duchess married the Duke not long after her first husband died and when her second spouse died, she secured a large payout. The ghost has sometimes been given the nickname "Betty." A phantom piper, a warrior wielding a sword and a ghostly gardener, seeking his lost daughter in the grounds, have also been seen, the latter being seen mostly by teenage girls. When the building was run by the Scottish Youth Hotel Association, a top-floor bedroom that had previously been used as an old nursery was known as 'the spook room' as it was so haunted.
