Porthgwidden Beach

St Ives, Cornwall TR26 1NR

Also encountered at Porthmeor Beach and Island Road, a phantom white horse has been experienced, although these days, the phenomena has degenerated into the sound of horses hooves only. The horse is said to be a faithful steed who waited for his owner to return from a swim in the sea - but whose wait was in vain as the man had drowned. It is said that the phantom horse would trot up Island Road towards the beach and on the return journey, his owner was now perched on his back!
