The Alfriston

When this was "The Deans Place Hotel," a spectral dog was seen in the car park and adjoining road; a young woman in a blue dress had been seen in the house, supposedly a murder victim; she was once reported to brush past a guest on the stairs. Other ghosts included a figure in a white coat and a tall hat in the attic, a dog in the gardens, "a horrible black phantom in the garden" and a disembodied hand covered in jewels. There is/was another ghost of a young woman seen at the top of the stairs (which no longer exist), reacting as if she is in fear of invisible flames.

Sarah Murrell told me that, "When I worked there between 2002-2005 [I was] on the reception. A man complained that someone was typing in the room above him on a type writer during the night. I assured him there was no room above his only the attic. He complained and said it kept him awake through the night and was sure it was above him. I think it was a ghost up in the attic."

Update 11/1/22: I emailed the hotel to inquire about recent phenomena and was told, "At present we haven't had any inexplicable phenomena at Deans Place Hotel recently."
