Knowlton Church

Lumber Lane, Knowlton, Wimborne, Dorset BH21 5AE

The phantom that wanders the site is said to date back to pagan times; dressed in a long cloak, he walks around the inner ring of the bank that marks the outside of the henge; a large black dog is also said to patrol outside the area. A group of friends were approaching the church one evening intent on finding ghosts when the building momentarily disappeared; the consensus among the terrified witnesses was to flee! Researcher Peter Crawley also notes, "A phantom horse and rider gallops through the ruined church in the middle of the night. A ghostly face has been seen peering from the top window of the tower. There have been reports of a weeping woman (some say a nun) kneeling outside the church."
