Breamore HouseUpper Street, Breamore, Fordingbridge, Hampshire, SP6 2DF 01725 512858 The two ghosts that haunt this location are of the Doddington family who lived here in the 17th century. One of them is the elder Mrs Doddington who "faded away" after her husband killed himself after a lawsuit did not go in his favour. Her daughter was killed by her own son in a fit of madness. She haunts the Blue Bedroom and her appearance is said to be a portent of death or illness to the house owners (a slightly less macabre version say that she simply appears at the same time and not as a harbinger). A legend of the house says that the mother placed a death-bed curse on whomever moved a portrait of her and in the 1950s a man who was cleaning the house moved the picture and he fell and broke his leg. Update 7/9/20: Michael Hulse, a staff member emailed me to say, "Everything has been peaceful here at Breamore for the last few years." Link: Daily Echo |
