Higher Chilton FarmhouseChilton Cantelo, Yeovil, Somerset BA22 8BE Theophilus Brome [or Broome] had originally been an ardent Royalist during the civil war but was so angered by the treatment of prisoners by his kin that he became a parliamentarian supporter. Broome was worried that after his death (which occurred in 1670), his head would be displayed as a traitor to the king. He gave instructions that his skull would be removed and placed in his home. Whenever people tried to remove the cranium from the building, it is said that "the most frightful screams" were heard in the house accompanied by poltergeist activity.
