All Saints Church

Croft Lane, Crondall, Farnham, Hampshire GU10 5QF
01252 850379

Starting from nearby Croft Lane, the sound of distant hooves heralds the spectral appearance of a Roundhead. He and his steed ride up the path to the church, where he dismounts and hammers on the church door before vanishing; however, there are some discrepancies in this haunting as some have suggested that the phantom is Sir William Waller, who was a Parliamentarian. There are also stories of phantom muskets being fired and Roundhead soldiers in the churchyard, too.
A 1989 document provides a different (or additional?) version of these hauntings, "On moonlit nights the semi transparent figure of a parliamentarian soldier in full uniform has been seen emerging from a private drive immediately opposite the Norman church of All Saints and fading away after taking only a few steps. A local belief is that he was killed when attacking the church. A troop of Cromwell's Ironsides have also been reported as riding towards the church, perhaps returning to find their colleague."
