Ghost entry for this location:

Green Park

Piccadilly, Westminster, London SW1A 1AA

A number of (unspecified) ghosts are said to have been encountered here; the most alarming manifestation has a "pig-like face with a wolf's mouth and pale, hate-filled eyes" seen in the shadow of an "old plane tree," where several man are said to have died. This may be the "black figure" seen under a reputed "Death Tree". There are two stories connected to this tree's origins. The first says that the park was supposedly built on the site of a leper hospital in mediaeval times, the second says that the park used to be a burial ground. It is in this area where disembodied moans and a man's voice has been heard. A legend says that if fall asleep in the shadow of the tree you will never wake up again. This may be a corruption of another story whereby a violinist fell asleep here 100-200 years ago and when he awoke his instrument had been stolen. Despite asking everyone if they had seen it, he was never reunited with it and he either died of a broken heart or committed suicide as his source of income had gone. Weird in the Wade says that, "... late into the evening in the summer [or dark winter's nights], you can hear him playing his violin."
