The Jolly TarQueens Road, Hannington, Wiltshire SN6 7RP 01793 762245 A man in old-fashioned clothes standing by the fire and a woman seated in a chair have been experienced here. Bangs coming from an empty storeroom and a figure "dipping down" in this room have been reported too as have figures peering into the bar area. Weird Wiltshire adds to these descriptions: "A ‘scruffy’ man who walks out of the fireplace and loiters in a corner at the end of the lounge bar. Reportedly middle-aged and nearly six feet tall. He has also been seen in the public bar by the landlady, chef and locals. He sometimes looks like he is dripping wet and appears anxious. There is another old lady ghost who walks through the bar window and back out through the wall. Then, there is a grey lady who sits by the fire." Update 29/7/20: Steven Snook, the manager (?) of the Jolly Tar tells me, "I’m really sorry but the story's of the Jolly Tar being haunted are totally made up by a failing landlord trying to drum up business by any means he could, that was 11 years ago and he has gone. We have run the pub for the last 10 years and we have not had any unusual things happen at the pub." I have decided to keep this entry in the database for information purposes.
