Oak Hill Park

A source claims that a couple were terrorised by a tall form as they were walking through the park after midnight. It hovered a little way above the ground, and seemed to be a human form lacking a head. At some point, the couple fled (a version of the tale says that the figure was moving slowly and then turned towards them - at which point they ran.) Another phantom is a man wearing clothes from an earlier era and hat, who was seen seated on a bench - until he vanished. He may be the ghost seen late at night by someone else wearing a long dark cloak and a big hat. The stranger did not respond when the witness passed him and issued a greeting. But when he looked back the strange figure had gone. There is also a ghostly horseback rider, a phantom lady and a figure with a cowl, like a monk's habit, pulled over his head. This latter character did not have any legs or feet visible beneath the habit and when the witness looked into the hood there was no face visible. It is said that this is the ghost of Geoffrey de Mandeville.
