A female phantom in white has been seen out of the corner of the eye, usually between 6 and 7am, and footsteps heard.

Update 18/7/22: At his suggestion, I phoned Dave Foxford-Brown, the owner of the property to discuss recent phenomena. Describing himself as a non-believer in ghosts, he admits that he is perplexed by events at his inn. He said that the building was 2 pubs originally, but the adjoining wall was removed and the two were knocked into one. Sarah Chambers died of old age in the other pub, but is said to frequent both in spectral form (though Dave didn't mention her being seen). Room 7 is described as cold and his dog doesn't like the room; guests have heard a couple bickering about sheets etc. in the corridor at night in the hallway. One guest left at 3am - however, Dave was in his room and his wife wasn't on site when the row was taking place. It was in this room that other odd things have happened; he and his wife were arranging the laundry and left the room briefly. When they returned, they found the towels and sheets on the floor. They were the only people in the building at the time. The ghost seems to only have an issue with men; for instance they would try to use the key in the lock but without success but it would work with women. Two men who stayed the night in the room woke to find their bedside cabinet turned 180 degrees around so that it now faced the wall - and they hadn't heard a thing during the night. Another unexplained occurrence is that one night, when locking up, a bar maid saw a shadow looking out of Dave's room and she waved at him. The figure didn't respond which upset the girl. She later found out that Dave was away that night; they had assumed that it was him because he was the only one allowed in that room. Another time, Dave was in the kitchen when he heard an ex-regular, Nigel, greet him and call out his name from the bar. There was no-one there when Dave went to check. A short time before had been Nigel's funeral; he found out that this wife was having an affair and stabbed her before turning the knife on himself. Dave told me that there had been a succession of minor things, which happened on a monthly basis: finding the TV and stereo on by themselves; going into the kitchen and finding the kettle boiled even though no one had turned it on; 15 microwaves had been gone through, which he puts down to electrical faults; pictures being found on floor in the morning; and things seen out of the corner of the eye and passing him by.

Mrs Karen Grittiths emailed me details of her stay on April 8th, 2023: "We stayed in Room 1 and on our second night there, during the night, I heard things being moved on the dressing table like something was being dragged across the table and a rustle of paper. It was quite noisy actually but I was so tired I couldn’t open my eyes and also I had a feeling not to look. I knew it wasn’t my husband because I knew he was sound asleep. He always tells me if he has a restless night or has to get up. It didn’t last long about a minute. I never said anything to my husband (still haven’t) and I never said anything to Lisa and Dave who run the establishment. However it came to light that our room (room 1) use to be Sarah’s stock room and was said to be haunted. He told us this just before we left to come back home. I wished in a way I had looked. Then again, would I have wanted to stop there ? The other nights went by uneventful."
