Llancaiach Fawr Manor

Loud knocks, a male voice, "flowery perfume" and a "cold front" which comes down the stairs have been reported. A shadowy figure in a tall hat has been seen in the kitchen, while upstairs in the Parlour, a "dark looming figure" and a smiling lady in a turquoise gown engaged in embroidery have been observed. The most frequent phantom is a small, stout woman in a bonnet and with a bunch of keys, believed to be a former housekeeper named Mattie. Two spectral children, both boys, have also been seen here and heard playing on the stairs and one of them tugs on visitor's hair and sleeves; pranks have often been blamed on these two and a visitor felt a small, cold hand on top of his on the banister. A man in a tall hat and voices in the cellar are some of the other phenomena experienced at the Manor. Other voices are said to have been heard in advance of visitors and remain always just one room ahead no matter how far people progress through the house.

A 2024 newspaper article features the reminisces of a former employee from the 1990s who heard footsteps and chatting above her even though the external doors were locked. At the end of one evening when she went to retrieve the cat, she heard a raspberry being blown in her ear. The cat also reacted to something invisible behind her, its fur standing on end and hissing at the ...whatever. The employee was alone at another time in the locked visitors centre when she heard the sound of saucepans in the kitchen being banged as if with a wooden spoon. Nothing was amiss upon investigation but whenever she left the area the sound would resume only to cease when she re-entered the area. This happened three times before she gave up. One of her colleagues lived at the manor before it became a museum and he talked of regularly hearing four loud, distinct footsteps above him. After the building was repurposed, he saw a Victorian man with a stovepipe hat and black cloak rush quickly past him in the garden. This was on a summer evening when it was light. The manager in 2015 also mentioned people hearing raspberries and distant laughter - and a visitor who had all the buttons on her new coat taken. The visitors centre also has the sound of children playing while locked; there are also sounds of footsteps and breaking glass.
