St Osyth's Abbey

St Osyth, the daughter of a Saxon King was beheaded by Pagan invaders, but according to legend her body picked up her head and walked to the nearby nunnery where she fell, a spring emerging from the spot. Her decapitated body is said to have been seen in the grounds in the vicinity of a well, which some think is the location of the spring (some reports say the spectral walk occurs on October 7th, the anniversary of her execution, where she is seen in the churchyard). Elsewhere, a phantom monk has also been encountered.
