The Church of St Leonard at the HytheHythe Hill (A134), Colchester, Essex CO1 2NP Spectral faces have been seen peering out of the parvise room, above the entrance lobby. Despite no documented evidence, it is said that the room once held four men who were accused of stealing items from the church plate; a fifth man was added to the tally when a local baker, acting as a good samaritan, gave them bread to eat and he too was incarcerated. All five men were left to die. Link: The Gazette |
